Valentine’s Day movies for everyone.

Happy Valentine’s Day! So, as much as I would love being surprised with skydiving for Valentine’s Day, sometimes it’s nice to just kick back and relax with the one you love, or if you hate everyone, your best gal pals, and watch a great movie. I’m a huge advocate of movie watching (even though I’m obsessed with watching TV shows (FRIENDS)) and I’ve made a thorough list of the movies I would most likely watch in celebration of Valentine’s Day, with my man and with my gals (scroll to the bottom girls).

Movies to watch with your Valentine:

1. Just Friends

just friends

Okay, by far, Just Friends takes the cake as my FAVORITE rom-com of all time. Nothing has ever made me laugh like this movie. For those of you who have seen it, I know its technically a Christmas Movie but I can’t not recommend it because it is simply the best. This is my family’s favorite movie to watch when we need a realllllly good laugh. Ryan Reynolds is also perfect soooooo….. watch it!!! I would give you a whole synopsis of the plot but all I will say is that if you don’t love this movie we shall no longer be friends. It is a work of comedic art. Every character is perfectly casted. The script is amazing. The plot is amazing. I’m honestly laughing just thinking about it. Watch it!!! It’s the hidden gem of Ryan Reynolds’ rom-coms.

2. Sleeping With Other People (Netflix)

I went into watching this movie having zero expectations because the title gives very little away. It turns out this is now one of my favorite silly movies about relationships and I think it’d be great for a chill Valentine’s Day night. This movie is the modern day “When Harry Met Sally” (also on this list). If you have even the slightest love for Alison Brie or Jason Sudeikis you will for sure enjoy this rom-com. It’s about Lainey (Alison Brie) and Jake(Jason Sudeikis) who briefly meet in college and years later cross paths and become friends who help each other navigate through other relationships. Lainey is quite delusional and Jake is your typical guy with commitment issues. I 10/10 recommend watching this but if you are looking for a night that doesn’t have a happy ending, keep scrolling.

3. How We First Met (Netflix)

Well, the trailer for this movie popped up on my Netflix Monday night and after watching it I woke up yesterday and HAD to watch the movie. I love Adam DeVine from Workaholics (watch it!) and Pitch Perfect and I also shamelessly stalk him on insta (don’t worry he knows). The main actress was also Kate in the first season of White Collar (shout out to my Neal Caffrey fans), she is also in Baywatch which I’ve only heard horrible things about. This movie though, is SO cute and so funny. I knew I would love this movie at first sight and I was right. Noah (Adam DeVine) meets Avery (Alexandra Daddario) at a party and immediately falls in love with her, fast forward to three years later and she is engaged to be married to someone else. Noah travels back in time to try to figure out a way to make Avery end up with him and learns a lot in the process. I LOVED this movie and I already want to watch it again. The characters have great chemistry and the ending is happy and unexpected. Watch it! Love it! Thank me later.

4. Everything Julia Roberts in the 90s

julia roberts

Guys, you really should have already watched all of these, SO, this is a reminder to watch them again. Julia Roberts is one of the most iconic Hollywood actresses ever (idc if you don’t agree). The different flavors of romance in each of these movies mixed with the humor of each plot makes them all great choices for any romantic night in, especially Valentine’s Day. Julia Roberts delivers three VERY DIFFERENT characters with some quotable lines to make each of these must-sees. These are also a few of my happy movies to watch when I need a boost so I hope you enjoy.

5. The Wedding Singer

p20515_p_v8_afIf a character named Julia Gulia doesn’t automatically sell you, Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler should. This movie is classic Adam Sandler circa 1998. The mullet is out to play and the horrible wedding singing could entertain you for hours. This movie will make you laugh, cry and maybe even scream a little at your TV. It’s a classic story of boy meets girl who fall in love with a few little twists sprinkled in, like girl is engaged and so is boy. There are characters you will love to love and one or two characters you will love to hate. You’ll definitely want to prepare some meatballs for this viewing party. For every guy who has fallen in love with a girl you can’t have, and for every girl who has fallen in love with a complete ass-hat, The Wedding Singer is for you! Get ready to laugh your ass off and fall in love with Julia and Glenn and Robbie and Linda, or something like that.

6. Meg Ryan Marathon

meg ryan

Well as much as I love Julia Roberts, I think I may love Meg Ryan just like one ounce more. These are some of my favorites from Meg. “When Harry Met Sally…” could quite possibly be one of the best rom-coms ever so I definitely recommend it. There are some super iconic scenes from this movie that you’d be missing out on if you never saw them. Both “You’ve Got Mail” and “Sleepless In Seattle” are movies made for hopeless romantics who love a happy ending.  I absolutely love all three of these but “When Harry Met Sally…” is my top pick of the group.

7. Stuck in Love

By far this is one of my absolute favorite movies ever. The storyline explores first loves, divorce and everything in between. The cast is perfect for the characters they play and everyone brings something different to the story. This rom-com is about a father trying to reconnect with his kids after he and his wife get divorced. He’s definitely holding on to what he doesn’t have anymore and his kids each have their own feelings about it. This movie made me fall in love with love and overall is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. Pure genius. It will definitely make you think about your life and what makes you happy and also who and what is worth waiting for. I can’t recommend this movie enough I love it so much. If I still had a DVD player I would own the physical copy.

8. Dirty Dancing

dirty dancing

There is really nothing dreamier than watching Patrick Swayze teach Jennifer Grey how to dance in “Dirty Dancing”. Yes this movie was filmed in 1987, but I can get over my love for high-definition television for this story. We all dream about going on vacation with our parents and having that epic love story in our teens and this movie gives you exactly that. It is a beautiful, romantic coming of age story with an amazing soundtrack which makes this movie one of my favorites on this list. Nobody puts baby in the corner and nobody should miss out on the amazingness that is Dirty Dancing. Fall in love with these characters and be whisked away by your fantasies of serendipitous love and learning how to dance from a hunky professional dancer like Johnny. This movie is iconic and 100% worth your time.

9. The Notebook

The Notebook

How could I make a Valentine’s movie list without including The Notebook? I know its sappy and most boys hate it but if your man won’t watch The Notebook with you on the #1 Hallmark Holiday of the year, he sucks. This movie needs no explanation because I’m sure everyone reading this has seen it, or will lie and say they have. The chemistry between Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams is electric and will leave you in a romance coma. It’s not my first pick for V-day (I’m most likely going to be watching Superbad or Bridesmaid with some popcorn in my bed), but it sure is one hell of a love story. I’ll always recommend this movie because it is a timeless romance about two people who can’t deny their love. I love love, therefore I love The Notebook. Laugh. Cry. Enjoy.

10. Valentine’s Day

movieposterSo I know not everyone is a fan of the movies with a million small plots that all somehow (kind of) come together, but I am. This movie came out when I was in high school and I had just been dumped the week before Valentine’s Day. It was definitely hard to get through, but ever since then its been a ritual of mine to watch this movie right around V-day every year just to enjoy how silly and romantic it is. I know I’m suggesting you watch it with your s/o but you could easily watch this with your gal pals too. Its a love story for everyone. And Taylor Lautner, Bradley Cooper, Ashton Kutcher and Patrick Dempsey are in it so like, how could you possibly say no. If you’re looking for something lighthearted and fun this is your flick. Also Taylor Swift is super awkward in it, another great reason to watch.

Movies to watch with your Galentine’s:

For all you gals who are spending Valentine’s Day with your gals and a fat bottle of wine, rest assured there are still tons of great movies to watch that won’t make you want to drown in self sorrow. A lonely Valentine’s day sucks but turn your night around with one of these great (chick) flicks. And if you’re absolutely not having it with any of these movies, binge watch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. Happy Valentine’s Day!
